These still lifes are conceived to be within the tradition of the Momenti Mori. The photographs were taken with polaroid black + white slide film. Old film, it was unstable and unpredictable. This unpredictability was another metaphor for the fleeting life captured in the arrangements. The slide film was uploaded and output as heat sensitive xerographic prints that were tiled together and applied to gessoed panels. The prints were ironed onto the panels and all exhibit a distressed surface, another aspect of unpredictability. The distressed surface is intended to both speak to the imperfect transmission of original photo and also the the shallowness of the reproduction. Each print is about 22 inches by 34 inches.
